An intuitive and feature-packed touch screen navigation system and a multifunction rear-seat entertainment module make the 2007 Ford Expedition a surprisingly wired ride, though its bulky form is not suited to modern urban driving.
[ background music ] >> Some of the first vehicles to really explore loading up the cabin with in-car tech were the luxury, high-dollar SUVs. Here's one now. Let's check out the '07 Expedition Eddie Bauer from Ford. ^M00:00:11 [ music ] ^M00:00:16 [ background music ] Now once you hoist yourself up into this beast, oh God, you find there's a pretty good array of tech up here in this lofty perch, partly because our vehicle has been equipped with the optional navigation system. You see it's right here. It's a nice high position, wide, kind of a short height of the screen. The LCD there is just barely spacious enough. You'll see the mapping and the actual rendering of graphics is just okay, it's not the best on the market, but so be it. It works fine, and it is also voice controllable. They do lock out navigation so you cannot enter a destination while you're on the road actually moving. Let's go to the entertainment system now, it's in the exact same place, it's the same unit. The navigation is also your entertainment and other menu areas. This one is a six disc integrated CD changer of course, standard CDs as well as MP3 CDs, and it works fine. It's got a good amount of bass in this vehicle, six speakers plus a sub-woofer, but it really thumps. It's good because you've got a lot of volume to fill in a vehicle like this, and this system does it pretty well. The power behind this is three hundred and forty watts, depending how they actually rated it, but that's a pretty good, pretty stout number. You have Sirius radio available as an option, no XM, it's a Ford after all. iPod adapter, no go, but you do have on all of these vehicles a line-in jack. Boy they're nicely trimmed down here on the dash. And the good thing about it is it's right next to twelve volt power, and right next to a nice square tray to put your MP3 player in. Oh by the way, another nice touch on this audio system, because this vehicle has rear bumper park distance sensors, and they beep if you're about to kill somebody, when you're in reverse it'll also go into a mute mode, so when they start beeping, you can actually hear them. That's good thinking. Now not such good thinking is there is no backup camera available on this vehicle, so that better work. Now if you want to be on your phone in this thing, you better bring your own hands-free kit, cause there's just nothing available. No Bluetooth, no cradle system, you're on your own with hands-free calling. >> Now we've got the rear seat entertainment system plastered up here on the ceiling. It's got the drop-down eight inch LCD, pretty good size. Good resolution, it's a good looking display, kind of fits the width across here. That gives you room for a slot disc player on the right side that'll eat CDs, DVDs obviously, and MP3 CDs, and you've got other media controls over here. It's a partition system by the way, so you can join or split the front and rear seat entertainment systems. Other niceties include headphone jacks that are hardwired on both sides, you really get better sound with those. And on this side you've got a set of RCA auxiliary inputs, audio and video. Now back here in the third time zone we've got a bunch of power options. First of all, we've got the power lift gate, that's optional by the way, even though we have an Eddie Bauer you have to add that a la carte. But because we do have an Eddie Bauer we do get included, power third row seats. That's nice, if you've ever thrown your back out reaching across the bumper to move the third row you will love this option. We also have power quarter windows on this guy, that was part of the convenience group. Okay, let's price this guy out. Eddie Bauer Expedition with a five point four V8, three hundred horse, and the six speed automatic, thirty nine two. [ background music ] Then we added the power lift gate for five hundred dollars, two thousand dollars for navigation, fifteen hundred for rear seat entertainment, another two hundred dollars for Sirius radio, and six seventy five for a convenience group that gives us the rear backup sensors, those power quarter windows, and power adjustable pedals.
