CES 2013: The mind-controlled helicopter from Puzzlebox

Donald bell takes a stab at piloting the Puzzlebox Orbit using nothing but the thoughts in his pretty little head.

Hey. I'm Donald Bell here for cnet.com, here at CES 2013 with my very first brain-controlled helicopter. This is the Puzzlebox Orbit. It retails for $189. You get the remote control helicopter. You get the NeuroSky headset and you also get an IR blaster that pokes out of the headphone jack of your compatible tablet or phone. The problem here is if I concentrate too hard, it's going straight up to the ceiling so I'm trying to hold on to it. It's also not on right now, so that helps. The other cool thing about this product is that it's all open source. So if you feel like you want hack it, they're even gonna provide you a guide for hacking the software yourself and making maybe a giant version of this to control the world or menace your neighbors or your cat, probably your cat. I know you don't believe me. What you probably want is proof that this thing actually works, so let's try it again. The cool thing about this is that you can actually adjust the amount of concentration required to make it turn on or shut off. There's a threshold of adjustment on the software. So because I'm here and I'm concentrating pretty hard on what I'm saying, it wants to take flight. The good thing is I'm actually not that smart so going dumb quickly is one of my strong [unk]. All right, so there you go: the first mind-controlled robot and hopefully not killing anyone around me that I've ever seen here at CES 2013. Cnet.com, I'm Donald Bell.
