CNET News Video: Tech Minute: Balls, strikes, and smartphone apps

1:07 /

Now that the Major League Baseball season is in full swing, it's time to get in the game with a few handy smartphone and tablet apps. CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on how easy it is to follow your favorite team on your mobile device.

If you truly wanna be taken out to the ball game, the most complete app is At Bat from MLB.com. The casual fan will enjoy the free version, which gives access to game scores, standings, and articles, customized app to follow your favorite team and get alerts for when game start to the score changes and the final outcome. But for 20 bucks a season or 3 dollars a month, the Series fans can upgrade to the paid version with access to all the radio broadcast for your favorite teams. MLB.com offers another free app called At the Ballpark. It's a must download when you head out to the stadium as you can easily upgrade your seats during the game. Pay the ticket difference and a small service charge, and you'll be in a better seat to buy those peanuts and Cracker Jacks. For any sports fan, the free ESPN app is a handy one to keep at your fingertips. Like those from MLB, this one is available for both iPhones and Androids. Follow your favorite teams, scores, and even share that information with your social networks. There you have it. One, two, three handy apps for watching the old ball game. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, CNET.com for CBS News.
