Tech Minute: Tech for foreign travel

0:59 /

Currency converters and itinerary organizers like TripIt are just some of the handy apps you can load onto your gadgets before an international vacation. But that's not all. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on other apps that will make your travels smoother.

[MUSIC] Google Translate is a must have for all travelers. It's a free App for all phones that works especially well on Android. Because the service will translate a photo. This is perfect for navigating foreign restaurant menus and signage. Keep in touch with loved ones while traveling abroad by sending a postcard from your camera roll. The company Sincerely, Inc. Makes two good apps. Postagram, where the photo pops out for a keepsake. And Storyboarder postcard collage, where users can combine multiple photos on one postcard. Both apps are free to download. And sending the cards starts at $0.99. And finally, in case of emergency abroad, you need to know the right numbers to call to get help. 911 doesn't work in Warsaw. And you'll waste precious time dialing zero in Zimbabwe. The $0.99 iPhone emergency app can determine your location and give you the local numbers to access police, fire or medical services. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, cnet.com, for CBS News. [MUSIC]
