First Look: Sony's new Walkman handles hi-res audio (hands-on)

1:04 /

Is there still a need for dedicated MP3 players? Sony says yes. We go hands-on with its new hi-res player.

[MUSIC] With the rise of smart phones, you might not think there's much need for MP3 players anymore. But Sony says different. It's launched this new Walkman here at [UNKNOWN] 2014 in Berlin. Let's take a look. So, with this new Walkman, Sony is targeting real diehard music fans. Those who want to listen to what Sony calls high res audio. Which is basically audio files in a very very high quality. So, the device itself feels pretty cool. I like the design and this bright color. Feels very light, it's easy to use, with a simple interface. It doesn't have WiFi, and it doesn't have a touchscreen, which is a little annoying. But it does have Bluetooth, it's got NFC as well, and it's got space for a microSD card. [Powering?] down on the specs, however, could help with battery life. Sony says that this thing will last up to 30 hours, even when it's playing very high-quality files. So, what do you think? Do you like the idea of a dedicated MP3 player for high-quality music? Or would you rather simply listen on your phone? Let me know, and check out [cnet.com/ether?] for much, much more. [MUSIC]
