Motorola Moto E

The Motorola Moto E is unquestionably cheap and has a set of specs that makes it more than capable of handling your basic everyday tasks. Its price, however, isn't much lower than the Moto G, which has a better camera, more powerful processor, improved screen and longer battery life. Unless you're shopping on a very tight budget, the Moto G is still the best value phone around.

Motorola Moto G (4G LTE)

Although the Motorola Moto G with 4G LTE is a bit pricier than its 3G-only sibling, it still has one of the best displays in the budget arena, its processor makes operation enjoyably smooth and its rounded, compact body is both comfortable and attractive. If you're after an affordable all-round entrance into the high speeds of 4G, you've come to the right place.

Motorola Moto X

With the latest version of Android on board, as well as a bold screen and a good camera, the Motorola Moto X is a decent all-round phone. The Moto G has all this though, and costs half as much. Without the wide choice of colours the Moto X has in the US, there's not enough to justify the extra expense over the Moto G unless you really want 4G data speeds.

Motorola Moto G

The Motorola Moto G has the screen, power, build and battery to make much more expensive phones jealous. Unless you crave 4G or just fancy the luxury of a top-end phone, the Moto G should definitely be on your shopping list -- at this price, no other phone comes close.

Motorola Droid Mini

If $100 is the most you can spend, the Motorola Droid Mini will fit the bill, but splurging on the handsome Moto X pays dividends later.

Motorola Droid Ultra

Unless you want the thinnest smartphone on the block, the more powerful HTC One and Droid Maxx are better buys.

Motorola Moto G Google Play Edition

If you yearn for pure Android KitKat on the cheap, the Moto G Google Play Edition is worth the price, but power users should look elsewhere.

Motorola Electrify M

The Motorola Electrify M is a well-priced and compact option on U. S. Cellular, but the larger Samsung Galaxy S3 is the better deal if size doesn't matter.

Motorola Motosmart

The Motorola Motosmart has an alluring price tag but juddery performance, a weak battery and an unlovely screen means it never shines. There are excellent, highly capable Android alternatives around this price so make sure you check out the competition before saddling yourself with what is, at best, a very middle-of-the-road performer.

Motorola Razr HD

The Motorola Razr HD boasts a 4.7-inch 720p screen, Android Jelly Bean software and decent performance from its ageing dual-core processor. As a mid-range phone it'd be pretty good, but its £400 price tag means it's just far too expensive. Your money can be better spent elsewhere.
