With built-in Wi-Fi and reliably high image quality, there's much to like about the latest addition to Canon's point-and-shoot IXUS lineup. There was some noise at middling sensitivities, but otherwise the 255 HS performed well in my tests.

A return to form for the IXUS line, the Canon IXUS 510 HS is one of the best-looking cameras you can buy, and if you do, you won't be disappointed with its output. Vivid colours, fine detail and a good zoom make this camera a great choice.

A potentially great little camera is let down by a slightly unresponsive touchscreen and colour fringing on some images. It's also rather expensive at £350. That's a shame, as in all other respects the IXUS 1100HS is very impressive, reproducing realistic colours with the absolute minimum of noise.
Typical price: £350.00
A great performance from this diminutive snapper proves that good camera design comes down to much more than merely cramming in as many megapixels as the sensor will allow. Its downsides are few and far between, making the Canon IXUS 230HS our favourite ultra compact on sale today.
Typical price: £230.00
The Canon IXUS 115 HS compact camera outshines many of its rivals in terms of performance, features and usability. It's not exactly a munter either.
Typical price: £145.00
The Canon IXUS 220 HS offers a fair selection of features and pretty good performance, wrapped up in a small, stylish stainless-steel shell. Its price is rather hard to swallow, though.
Typical price: £185.00
The Canon IXUS 310 HS needn't get by on its pretty looks alone, thanks to some powerful technology and impressive performance. The camera's high price may prevent it from attaining a broad appeal, though.
Typical price: £260.00
The Canon IXUS 1000 HS is another competent entry in the long-zooming compact-camera arena. There's little that lifts the 1000 above its ever-swelling pack of rivals, however.
Typical price: £270.00
Hang on -- aren't Canon's IXUS models meant to be super-smart, super-compact fashion cameras? So what's the IXUS 300 HS doing with high-speed shooting tech, an f2.0 lens, and manual shutter-speed and aperture control? Never mind -- just enjoy it. The 300 is a very good camera that marks a significant step forward in overall image quality, high-ISO performance and shooting speeds
Typical price: £300.00
The Canon IXUS 210 looks good and handles well, but its picture quality is weak by any standards, let alone for a camera in this price bracket. It's alright if you don't blow the pictures up too much or zoom in too far, but you'd have to be pretty forgiving to put up with that
Typical price: £250.00
