Sony launches a pair of constant-aperture E-mount zooms

Lori Grunin/CNET

Sony's filling out some much-needed gaps in its E-mount lens line, with a $999 Zeiss 16-70mm f4 optically stabilized model and a $599.99 18-105mm f4 optically stabilized and internally focusing power zoom.

I'm generally not a fan of constant-aperture f4 lenses; they're more expensive than the kit-quality lenses, but feel a lot more limited than variable-aperture lenses that start at f2.8. Nevertheless, for the price, for outdoor or studio-lit shooting they deliver a better-quality experience.

The 16-70mm f4 ZA OSS is slated to ship in the middle of September; you'll have to wait until December for the 18-105mm f4 OSS G power zoom.
