Xbox One and PS4 act quickly to curb swearing and nudity

Even though the Xbox One only went on sale on Friday, users are being banned for uploading videos with too much swearing.

You connect a thing to the Internet and there's no telling what people will do with it. The new Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are already dealing with "excessive profanity" and reported nudity respectively.

Even though the Xbox One only went on sale on Friday, users are already being banned for uploading videos with too much swearing.

"We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch. "Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live. We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members."

Microsoft promised it wasn't monitoring players' personal communications, only content on Upload Studio, the Xbox One's video editing and sharing app.

Meanwhile the PS4's Twitch streaming is causing ruptions of a sexy unsuitable nature, after one user reportedly streamed some home-made bedroom activity using the unfortunately named Playroom app. The account in question was banned, Kotaku reports.

This led Twitch to restate its terms of service, emphasising that "non-gaming content is not allowed" and, "If using PS4 Playroom, the content must be about games or gaming and within our ToS."

"Well that would have been impossible to predict," remarked CNET UK editor and noted cynic Jason Jenkins.

Both consoles have seen limited reports of hardware faults, with the PS4 experiencing a 'Blue Light of Death' and the Xbox's disc drive sounding like "a robot vomiting". The two companies have insisted very few consoles are affected, and Microsoft is giving away free games to people who have to send their 'box back. The PS4 goes on sale in the UK this Friday.
