TomTom offers free adaptor to make iPhone 4 work with its Car Kit

TomTom is giving away a free piece of plastic that ensures its £100 Car Kit for iPhone works with the latest version of Apple's smart phone.

TomTom is offering a free adaptor for its £100 Car Kit for iPhone that will ensure it works properly with the  iPhone 4 . The car kit was originally designed for the iPhone 3GS and 3G, but the iPhone 4 has slimmer dimensions.

You can sign up for the free adaptor on TomTom's website. You'll need to provide your Car Kit's serial number. Shipments of the free adaptor will begin in a couple of weeks, and one should reach you by the end of the month if you sign up now. Car Kits bought after 1 September will include the adaptor.

The Car Kit for iPhone works in conjunction with the TomTom navigation app available in the iTunes Store. It secures your iPhone to your windscreen or dashboard and rotates to provide you with a landscape display. It offers enhanced GPS performance, built-in volume controls, and a speaker so you can hear the instructions emerging from your iPhone loud and clear. It can also charge the handset, and allows you to make hands-free calls, as well as play songs on your iPhone via an audio out connector.

Last week TomTom released the Go Live 1000 sat-nav, which offers advanced features, such as multitouch capability. It also recently announced the voice-controlled Via 120 and 125 sat-navs, and teamed up with Sony to put sat-nav features in Xplod car stereos .
