Sanyo Xacti VPC-CS1: Smallest 1080i camcorder hits UK this week

Sanyo has announced that the Xacti VPC-CS1 will land on British shores this very week. Specs and pricing are just one click away

Sanyo has announced that the Xacti VPC-CS1, a pocket-friendly high-definition camcorder, hits the UK this week.

The CS1 shoots 1080i video. It packs a 3.4-megapixel sensor and 9x optical zoom F2.8 lens into its pistol-grip frame. A 69mm (2.7-inch) LCD screen flips out the side and tilts 285 degrees. HD video is recorded in MPEG-4 format and saved to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards. An HDMI port is included for outputting to a high-definition TV.

Sanyo claims the CS1 is the thinnest and lightest Full HD camcorder -- even though 1080i isn't actually Full HD -- measuring just 63 by 27 by 123mm. The Flip MinoHD is smaller at 50 by 17 by 100mm, but only shoots 720p. We'll have to wait to get our hands on one to see if there's any appreciable difference.

Sanyo also reckons "the CS1 is a hit with celebrities -- Colin Firth, Naomi Campbell, Carey Mulligan, Claire Danes and Nicholas Hoult all own one". Yeah, because they were all given one at a callathump of vacuous clothes-horses -- sorry, we mean 'style awards ceremony'.

The CS1 comes in silver or purple. Wonder which colour Nicholas Hoult has? He's so dreamy. The camcorder will cost £250 from this Friday, 5 March.
