Pie in the sky: Domino's delivers pizzas via octocopter
A Domino's UK publicity stunt shows what it would look like if pizzas were delivered by RC helicopters.
I dream of a better world, one in which tasty food and beverages drop from the sky, right onto my plate and into my glass, ready to enjoy. I'm not the only one with this vision. First came the Tacocopter concept. Next, it was the and the . Now, Domino's Pizza UK has introduced the DomiCopter, a flying pizza-delivery system.
The system consists of an octocopter with an insulated Domino's delivery bag underneath in a cage. The bag can easily hold a couple of pizzas and keep them warm during their flight.
A video demonstration set to dramatic action music shows the bag in flight, piloted by a Domino's delivery person. It navigates the obstacles of a cloudy day, successfully flies over a large puddle, and delivers its precious payload of pizzas to a dour-looking man. If that were me, I'd be a lot more excited about my sky-pizzas.
I'm not sure how well the DomiCopter would hold up to two fully laden supremes with extra meat. Still, an ad agency executive told NBC News that the cargo consisted of two large pepperoni pizzas that were delivered intact, though the two pies hit the copter's cargo weight limit.
Unfortunately, the DomiCopter isn't expected to go to work actually delivering pizzas to real customers anytime soon. It's more of a proof-of-concept combined with a publicity stunt than anything else. Still, a gal can dream, right?
