Nokia's Lumia 1020 pitch so far has revolved around its fancy camera, but the company is sweetening the pot with a free Netflix deal.

Nokia is giving away free annual subscriptions for Netflix to Vodafone customers in the UK, in a bid to build up holiday sales.

The offer was first reported by the Financial Times [subscription required], and a Netflix spokesman confirmed it to CNET.

CNET contacted Nokia for details and will update when we hear more.

Free Netflix subscriptions have been bundled into other device sales before, most notably a recent three-month membership included with purchases of Google's Chromecast this year. Demand for the device, especially when the value of three free months of Netflix was deducted, resulted in Google running out of the Netflix offer in little more than 24 hours .

In the past, these kinds of Netflix offers were largely propelled by the device maker, which essentially would pay for a bloc of subscriptions to give away. However, Netflix is in the midst of an international expansion that lately has centered in Europe, most recently with a launch in the Netherlands .

According to the FT, Nokia is running similar campaigns outside the UK, such as a promotion in Finland for six months of Netflix with Gigantti as part of a campaign with the Lumia 625.

Update, 11:17 a.m. PT: Adds Netflix confirmation.
