Nokia Lumia Dogphone is weirdest codename yet

Various clues suggest a new Nokia Lumia 910, a Lumia 1001, a Lumia 920 and a Lumia 950. Oh, and something called a Dogphone.

A bunch of potential new Nokia Lumia phones powered by Windows Phone have whispered their names online. Various clues suggest a new Nokia Lumia 910, a Lumia 1001, a Lumia 920 and a Lumia 950. Oh, and something called a Dogphone.

Other codenames appear in developer's logs spotted by Chinese blog WPDang, including the Nokia Fluid, Nokia Phi, P4301, and the Dogphone, whatever that is. Now, Nokia has produced the occasional dog of a phone, but surely that name is tempting fate.

Maybe it's a phone that can't be heard by human ears... a bit like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus . No, I'm kidding, you guys are alright.

Some of the numbers show up in Nokia's Remote Device Access service, according to Nokia Power User. The service allows app builders to test their apps on virtual versions of Nokia's phones, so they can check their app works properly across the range without having to own every handset. In that listing are prospective phones too.

If they make it to shop shelves, the new Nokias will join the Nokia Lumia 710, Lumia 800 and Lumia 900, the first Windows Phones from the Finnish company. But unlike the current lineup, the new phones will most likely be powered by Windows Phone 8 software. That's expected to arrive close to the launch of Microsoft's next generation of software for computers and tablets, Windows 8 , which has now been confirmed for launch in late October .

Information from developers also hints at a new Samsung Windows Phone model, revealed by its model number, SGH-i687. And there's a mystery phone named as the Juggernaut Alpha.

Are you excited to see what Nokia has up its sleeve? And what the heck is a Dogphone? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.
