Nokia C6 now free on contract from Vodafone

Previously only available unlocked, Nokia lovers can get the C6 smart phone straight from the Vodafone network, on some fairly cheap but long-term contracts.

The Nokia C6 is now available free on contract from Vodafone, following a period where you could only get it SIM-free. A free C6 is available for a reasonable £20 a month, but it ties you to a two-year contract. This gives you 100 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of mobile Internet every month.

If you're willing to pay £5 extra a month, this is bumped up to 300 minutes and unlimited texts. There are also £30 and £35 deals that offer you 900 minutes and 1,200 minutes respectively.

We first saw Nokia announce this device back in April together with the E5 and C3. It offers a Qwerty keyboard, a 3.2-inch touchscreen and a 5-megapixel camera.

The phone didn't live up to our expectations, however, with us describing it in our review as a "poor man's N97". Its resistive touch screen also confirmed some doubts we had. You can read the full review here.

You had a more positive opinion of the device, however, giving it a four-star average rating and good comments on the pricing, keyboard and Ovi maps. Take a gander at our user reviews here .

If you're willing to wait, Nokia will soon be releasing more advanced smart phones, with different options to the C6's rather dated OS.

The Finnish company has been taking its sweet, sweet time with the Nokia N8, but it could be worth the wait as it runs the new Symbian 3 OS and packs some good-looking hardware, such as a 12-megapixel camera and 16GB of memory. We're expecting this in October, but Vodafone already has an exclusive on the lime-green model (wow, jealous!), as Know Your Mobile reports.

There's also a cheaper option in the C7 , which we've already seen leaked, also carrying Symbian 3. But the one that's really dampening the pants of Nokia fans is the N9, which looks like it will carry some mini-MacBook styling and MeeGo, the mobile OS it has made in partnership with Intel.

Is the C6 worth getting? Or do you just want Nokia to get a move on with new Symbian 3 and MeeGo devices?
