Netgear networking kits aimed at home theater
Netgear announces two new wireless networking accessory kits designed specifically for home theater.
It's always rather costly to get a home theater, but if you're looking to put one together and want to connect components wirelessly, you just got spoiled.
Netgear announced Wednesday two new networking accessories for home theaters, the High-Performance Wireless-N HD Home Theater Kit (WNHDB3004) and the Universal WiFi Internet Adapter for Home Theater Devices and Gaming Consoles (WNCE2001).
The former is an upgrade of the WNHDEB111 DH gaming kit that CNET. Netgear claims that the new WNHDB3004 kit has been tested and proven to currently be the only solution capable of wirelessly playing multiple jitter-free 1080p HD video and audio streams at double the performance and range of other solutions on the market.
The company says the kit could provide sustained throughput of HD streams in excess of 40Mbps 99.9 percent of the time through multiple walls in an above-average single-family home.
The WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter for Home Theater Devices and Gaming Consoles is designed to deliver Wireless-N performance of up to 300Mbps through the Ethernet port of consumer electronic devices such as Internet TVs, game consoles, Blu-ray players, and more.
Basically, the new WNCE2001 adapter adds wireless-N capability to any Ethernet-ready device. Though products of its kind have been rather popular on the market, the WNCE2001 adapter is one of a few, if not the only for now, that can be powered via a USB port, making it much more convenient and less cumbersome to use than those that require a separate power adapter.
Both of the new accessories are backed by a one-year warranty. The WNCE2001 adapter will be available in May for an estimated $79. The WNHDB3004 home theater kit will be available in the third quarter, when its price will also be available.
