Lotus Evora GTE Road Car Concept is deadly serious

Lotus fans may not have to wait long for a fix of new Lotii, as the company's beavering away on a new Evora flagship, known as the GTE Road Car Concept.

Lotus fans may not have to wait until 2013 for a fix of new Lotii , as the company's beavering away on a new Evora flagship known as the GTE Road Car Concept, Autocar reports.

This beastly-looking slice of automotive gluttony takes its inspiration from the new Evora GTE racer, which competes in the new Le Mans Series GTE category. Lotus describes it as "not merely a paint scheme or a homage to a race car -- this is a serious race car that makes for a very serious road car."

Them's fightin' words, but the GTE Road Car Concept should easily live up to the hype. Its engine is based on the standard Evora's 3.5-litre Toyota unit, though this has been modified heavily and now takes the form of a race-oriented 4-litre lump capable of kicking out 420bhp. For reference, the standard Evora produces a paltry 276bhp, while even the supercharged Evora S metes out a mere 345bhp.

Lotus hasn't confirmed performance figures, but we expect this GTE Road Car Concept to be significantly more terrifying than the Evora S, which does 0-62mph in around 4.8 seconds and 172mph.

Frankly, we'd be just as happy cruising at low speed in this thing. Its gorgeous new bodykit, which consists of a more aggressive front end and a massive fixed rear wing, deserves to be seen by the wider world and will surely endear you to anyone standing at a bus stop on a rainy day.

Expect to see the Evora GTE Road Car Concept at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show and on posters adorning the walls of young men and women the world over.
