Little Robot Friends make perfect bot buddies

The Little Robot Friends on Kickstarter come equipped with whimsical looks and charming robot personalities.

It used to be that your options for an interactive robotic friend was limited to either Teddy Ruxpin or a Furby. Now, we have much cooler options available, like the Little Robot Friends on Kickstarter.

Even without a bunch of fake fur, these little bots are charming. They have some Tamagotchi-like characteristics in that they change and adapt as you interact with them. They can also interact with each other.

Each robot comes with a different personality, but can change over time. For example, a timid robot can be encouraged by petting its hair. Eventually, it will develop to come out of its shell and be more confident in its beep-and-boop interactions.

Each Arduino-controlled bot is made with LED eyes, a small speaker mouth, a microphone, an ambient light sensor, and touch-sensitive "hair." Two AAA batteries provide the power.

Though some of the pledge levels are sold out, you can still get a Little Robot Friend fully assembled and customized to your specifications for about $50. You can even set the parameters for its initial personality. If you're into coding, the little bots are simple to hack into when you choose a package that includes a developer dock.

If you've outgrown Tamagotchi and are annoyed by Furby, but still want a cute robot companion, then Little Robot Friends could be the droids you're looking for.
