Lenovo ThinkPad 2 has Windows 8, gets up in iPad's business

A new Lenovo tablet aimed at business types has leaked online, read on for all the details.

Lenovo is hopping aboard the Windows 8 train, with a new slate that wants to out-business the iPad.

Details of the upcoming ThinkPad 2 tablet surfaced at the Verge, revealing that the 10.1-inch device will play host to 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Meanwhile specs that surfaced at Techin5 tip a 9.8mm thick frame, 650g weight and an 8-megapixel camera strapped to the tablet's rear. All that plus stylus support and dual-core Intel processors -- be still my beating BlackBerry.

An optional keyboard dock has also leaked, complete with an iconic red pointing stick in the centre.

Lenovo's ThinkPad tech is aimed at snappy-suited types who need technology to power high-profile meetings, speaking loudly on Bluetooth headsets and guzzling boardroom snacks.

Powered by Windows 8, the first version of Microsoft's desktop operating system designed with touchscreens in mind, the ThinkPad 2 could prove a nifty gadget for anyone who needs to access Office files, or would prefer a tablet that allows for multiple user profiles.

Those are both things that the iPad is rubbish at, and this is where gadgets like Lenovo's tablet, or the Windows RT-powered Microsoft Surface, could really shine. Apple's tablet may be great for lolling around on your sofa watching cat videos, but there are professionals out there pleading for a business-savvy tablet they can use at work.

Would you use this business-minded slate? Or should tablets be less about work and more about play? Let me know in the comments below or on our Facebook wall.
