Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2: Netbook sequel

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 is the follow-up to the S10, tweaking the keypad and generally doing the things a sequel should do

Keeping track of the names of gadgets is a notorious minefield, and netbooks are no exception . Three cheers then for the Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-2: as the name suggests, it's an improved take on the S10. Huuzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

The original S10 was well received, even if a little lost in the current glut of netbooks. The S10-2, true to its moniker, doesn't change that much, but we have absolutely no problem with a good thing getting better.

Our chums at Crave US have had their hands on the S10-2, noting that the most notable improvement over the original is the larger right-shift key on the tweaked keyboard. They've also whacked in a third USB port, enlarged the trackpad and glossy'd up the screen.

We branded the S10 as officially gorgeous, and the sequel is even prettier. It sports a new patterned design and is available in white, black, purple or grey. All this in a body weighing 1kg and just 18mm thick.

On to the specs: the S10-2 packs the usual Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It runs the the same quick-launch pre-Windows OS and VeriFace facial-recognition software included in the most recent S10.

The yanks will be paying $349 (£230) for the vanilla S10-2, or $399 (£260) for a version with 3G. We're waiting to hear more from Lenovo on UK pricing and availability.

Update: UK pricing has now been confirmed to start at £300, from late July.
