Is this the best iPad case?
The JavoEdge Fiber Axis iPad case, which retails for $39.95, has a lot of things going for it, including good looks and a versatile design.
A few of us here at CNET have been fiddling around with iPad up at various angles--and that includes placing the iPad in a portrait or landscape position., trying to find ones to recommend to readers. While the JavoEdge Axis series isn't quite perfect, there's a lot to like about it. For starters, the model I tested, the Fiber Axis, has a clean, modern design that's eye-catching (it at least impressed editor Dan Ackerman, which is hard to do). Just as importantly, you can prop your iPad up at a few different angles and the case swivels, allowing you place your iPad vertically or horizontally when in easel mode. And it's also worth mentioning the magnetic clasp, which keeps the case from flopping open.
The one thing I didn't like about it is that the three hard rubber grooves that serve in propping up your iPad leave marks on the screen when the case is closed. Yes, the marks can be easily wiped off, but it would be preferable if they didn't appear. Also, I'd like to see a little more protection on the top and bottom edge of the device, which remains exposed.
Those quibbles aside, I'm a fan of this style of iPad case (I've seen similar cases from other manufacturers but so far prefer the look of the Fiber Axis). It's $39.95, which isn't cheap, but it's basically the same prices as Apple's official iPad case and more versatile.
