Internet Week Europe lands in London to honour online

Internet Week Europe has kicked off in London, featuring a wealth of events, from hack sessions and panel debates to bike rides and pub crawls -- and if you can't make it, there's still free stuff.

Internet Week Europe comes to London this week. A wealth of events and conferences from hack sessions to bike rides takes place across the capital from 8-12 November, featuring some of the biggest names in the European online community.

It's the first Internet Week to take place in Europe after starting in New York in 2008. Co-ordinated by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the five-day webfest looks to raise the profile of Europe's digital industry with events raising from conferences and panel discussions to bike rides, interactive night-vision street games, parties and breakfasts. Executive breakfasts. They're like normal breakfasts, but with more croissants and people in suits banging on about why they're so amazing.

It all kicks off today with events including an official reception, and a social-media mash-up developer challenge hosted by The Sun newspaper . Click here to see the full line-up, including happenings and freakouts organised by Google, Yelp, Lonely Planet, Channel 4, Yahoo, the BBC and many more at venues including the British Library and Chelsea football club.

Even if you can't make it to the events, you can still get involved. Skype is offering free Wi-Fi at hotspots across the country. The BBC is also offering its BBC Good Food Healthy Recipes app for the iPhone or iPod touch for nowt, while the Lonely Planet London City Guide (iTunes links) is also available gratis until Friday.

And remember: every week is Internet week here at CNET UK.
