House of Cards comes to Blu-ray and DVD on 10 June in UK

Netflix' own high-class political thriller isn't staying online-only for long -- you can buy the full first season in two months' time.

Netflix' home-made high-class political thriller isn't staying online-only for long -- you can buy the full first season of House of Cards on DVD and Blu-ray from 10 June (or 11 June in the US), according to Amazon UK.

The David Fincher-helmed potboiler is available to pre-order now for £21.50 on DVD or £28 on Blu-ray. Both come with an UltraViolet digital copy you can stream from the cloud -- handy if you don't want to carry on paying Netflix £6 a month.

House of Cards made waves as the first major TV series commissioned by an online service and released all on the same day, everywhere in the world. Starring Kevin Spacey as the Machiavellian US politician Frank Underwood and Robin Wright as his Lady Macbeth-ish wife, it's rumoured to have cost $100m to produce.

The most-watched show on the service , the gamble seems to have solidly paid off for Netflix as it raised its profile around the world and attracted legions of new subscribers. "We're going to do a lot more of these shows," chief content officer Ted Sarandos promised in the wake of its release in February.

True to his word, Netflix has signed up Matrix creators the Wachowskis for a 10-part sci-fi series called Sense8 , alongside Eli Roth's horror series Hemlock Grove, women's prison comedy-drama Orange is the New Black, and a new series of cult favourite Arrested Development.

Amazon's rival streaming service Lovefilm is dipping its toe in the commissioning water with 11 pilot episodes , including one from satirical powerhouse The Onion.
