Google Nexus 7 UK price and release date revealed

The new Google Nexus 7 costs from £200 and lands in your hands on 13 September.

The new Google Nexus 7 costs from £200 and lands in your hands on 13 September.

That's according to PC World, the first British shop to reveal prices and dates for the new 7-inch Nexus tablet announced by Google yesterday.

The 16GB model costs £200, and the 32GB version is £240.

The price tag is slightly more than the bargain-tastic original Nexus 7, which costs £160 for the 16GB model and £200 for the 32GB version. But the new 2013 tablet adds a 5-megapixel camera and eye-poppingly-detailed screen.

And hey, it's still cheaper than the similarly-sized Apple iPad mini, which starts at £270.

If PC World has the release date right, it's a longer wait than we'd hoped. Google is selling the new Nexus in the US right now, and promised it would be in the UK and selected other countries in "coming weeks." A release date of 13 September makes it seven weeks from now.

The new tablet shows off Android 4.3, the latest version of Google's software for phones and tablets. It's a relatively small update, but we're keen on the new user profiles that allow you to share your tablet with friends, family, roommates and other hangers-on without worrying they'll delete your email or see naughty things they shouldn't.
