Fujitsu blasts "weak" Windows 8, blames it for low sales

Fujitsu's president has blamed a slump in PC sales on Microsoft's new OS.

It's not just Acer that's unhappy with Windows 8 -- Fujitsu is getting in on the Microsoft bashing too.

Fujitsu's president has blamed a slump in PC sales on the "weak" operating system, Bloomberg reports. Japan's biggest IT services company will miss its annual shipment target, selling fewer than the 7 million PCs predicted earlier this year. And it's all, Fujitsu claims, thanks to Windows 8.

Acer's president Jim Wong told Digitimes this week that he also thought the new OS was responsible for a lack of sales. Adoption of Windows 8 would be slow, Wong said, because it takes people time to get used to using a touchscreen on a PC. The new Windows 8 interface could "dramatically delay adoption by consumers" he said.

Previously we've heard from a source inside Microsoft that sales of Windows 8 PCs were "well below Microsoft's internal projections." Official figures say the company has sold 4 million copies of Windows 8, and sales of the Surface tablet have been "modest".

A study also showed just 39 percent of people were planning on upgrading to Microsoft's latest operating system.

Acer has previously put the boot into Microsoft , with one of its execs saying the Redmond company didn't stand a chance in taking on Apple. "I don't think it [Microsoft's Surface tablet] will be successful because you cannot be a hardware player with two products," Oliver Ahrens said. "Microsoft is working with two dozen PC vendors worldwide, including the local guys, whereas Apple is alone, it can more or less do what it wants.

"Microsoft is a component of a PC system. A very important component but still a component."

What do you think of Windows 8? Do you think Windows RT will have stalled Surface sales, as people wait for the full-fat Windows 8 version ? And is everyone right to be kicking Microsoft, or are they just annoyed it brought out Surface to compete with their own hardware? Let me know in the comments, or on Facebook.
