First Look at presumed Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 successor

The follow-up to the flagship X10 is said to be prepping for an early 2011 launch. Could this be one of the first Gingerbread handsets?

Sony Ericsson "Anzu" Xperia X10 Blog

The first images and preliminary details for Sony Ericsson's presumed Xperia X10 successor have made their way online. And according to the source that passed on the tips to the Unofficial Xperia X10 blog, the device is "very, very slim."

Codenamed Anzu, or X12, the handset should feature a 4.3-inch screen and HDMI output, two increasingly common smartphone characteristics. Given the "HD" markings on the back of the phone, the video camera should record in 1080p resolution. The X10 has an 8.1-megapixel camera, so I would assume this phone has at least that much, if not more.

According to the Xperia X10 blog, the Anzu/X12 currently runs Android 2.1, but that could change by the time it is released in early 2011. Engadget is reporting that this phone may launch with Gingerbread come the first quarter.

In any case, Sony Ericsson would be wise to wait as long as possible to release this phone, giving time to load the latest possible Android build. We don't need another high-powered Android phone marred with outdated software.
