CoD: Ghosts is PS4, Xbox One's best-selling, most-played game
Activision's bombastic manshooter is the top game on both next-gen consoles, according to sales stats and multiplayer data.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the best-selling game and most-played multiplayer title for both next-gen consoles, its publisher Activision has boasted.
Activision put together sales data from retailers such as Best Buy in the US and chart-track data in the UK, our sister site GameSpot reports, as well as online multiplayer logs for both and .
The game was at the centre of a row over the relative power of the two new games machines when it emerged that while the PS4 was outputting 1080p graphics, the Xbox One was restricted to 720p, in order to ensure it ran smoothly at 60 frames per second. Reviewers later noted some frame-rate drops on Sony's machine, perhaps indicating it too should have been restricted.
The gung-ho shooter series is famous for its rabid fan base, so it's no surprise to see it topping charts. Ghosts introduces a playable military dog called Riley to its single-player campaign, adding some bite to its fantastical over-the-top action set pieces.
Reviews have been generally favourable for the game, with Metascores of 79 on PS4 and 78 on Xbox -- slightly higher than the previous-gen versions, thanks to improved visuals.
Here's our friends at GameSpot taking it for a walk in their video review:
The game made $1bn in its first day on sale earlier this month, before the next-gen consoles went on sale. The PS4 makes its UK debut this Friday, after the Xbox One went on sale last week.
