Let the Wookiee tweet! On his official Twitter account TheWookieeRoars, Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew recently gave followers a treat by captioning rare production photos of his time filming the original "Star Wars" films, "A New Hope," and "The Empire Strikes Back."

While some of his captions include silly commentary about Princess Leia and banthas, he also reveals some fun behind-the-scenes stories.

The photos aren't exclusively from Mayhew's personal collection, but also some that have made the rounds online on Twitter accounts like Unseen Star Wars and Star Wars 1977-1983.

"These photos aren't 'unseen,'" Mayhew wrote on Twitter. "They've been out there a long time in various forms. I just been collecting them for 30+ years. Still about 1,200 pics in the archive."

Mayhew is currently wrapping production on his own film "Standing in the Stars - The Peter Mayhew Story," about the intense series of knee surgeries he underwent to help him walk again unassisted. The film, and his medical bills, were funded by fans through Kickstarter.

I contacted Mayhew, who recently underwent another operation. He told me Monday that he'll let Crave know as soon as he's back up and doing interviews again.
