Asus PadFone Mini phone/tablet mash-up takes on Nexus 7

The Asus PadFone Mini phone that becomes a tablet will give you a choice of tablet size, rivalling the Google Nexus 7.

The Asus PadFone transforms from a phone to a tablet at the blink of an eye, and a new mini version is coming that gives you a choice of tablet size when you're out and about.

According to Engadget, Asus has invited the press to a launch for the PadFone Mini in Taipei on Wednesday.

The PadFone is a phone that plugs into the back of a 10.1-inch screen to form a tablet. The new model does the same, but according to the illustration on the invitation, the new tablet screen is smaller: perhaps this is a 7-inch version to challenge the likes of the Google Nexus 7 .

It remains to be seen whether it's just the docking station's size that's been reduced to earn the Mini name, or whether the specs have also been reduced. Current models have brawn to spare: the PadFone 2 boasts a 720p 4.7-inch screen, quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera on board too. There's a battery in both the phone and the tablet screen docking station to keep your phone ticking longer.

Whether it's coming to the UK is also yet to be confirmed. Is the Padfone perfect or pointless? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.
