Apple is looking for someone to add a bit of flexibility to its products. Adding fuel to the fire of rumours surrounding a flexible screen for the iPhone or hotly tipped smart watch, Apple has advertised for someone who knows a thing or two about flexible displays.
The advert, which has since been removed, was spotted by 9to5Mac. The ad promises a role for a senior optical engineer. The lucky employee will "lead the investigation on emerging display technologies such as high optical efficiency LCD, AMOLED and flexible displays".
If hired, the optical engineer will "analyze the trade-offs between design, process, optical performance, and implementation feasibility," the ad said.
Do you have what it takes to work at Apple? All you need is "hands-on experience and proven track of record in design, development and technical investigation of display technologies." Not to mention an "in-depth understanding of display technology, particularly LCD and OLED design and optical performance trade-offs, including optical design, viewing angle, color and white point management, gamma and dimming control, visual performance and artifacts; and characterization metrics."
Flexible displays don't necessarily mean a bendy-flexy iPhone that you can twist into new shapes. Apple is also reported to be developing a smart watch that talks to your phone, showing you notifications and updates without having to get your phone out of your pocket.
