Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 leaked pics hint at new design

A new version of Amazon's popular tablet has been spied online.

What looks to be Amazon's next 7-inch tablet has been glimpsed, in a series of leaked snaps.

The pictures, which hint at a major redesign for the Kindle Fire HD tablet appeared at BGR and clearly show a more angular, Batmobile-esque look, complete with new buttons.

An 8.9-inch sequel is also in the works, and will look 'almost identical' to the 7-inch version, the report says, also mentioning that we'll likely see the mythical device revealed before the end of this month, according to 'trusted sources'.

The site claims that the second Kindle Fire HD, which may well keep its current name, will have a 1,920x1,200 pixel display -- that's the same resolution as the revamped Nexus 7 tablet .

The 8.9-inch version meanwhile is tipped to deliver a stonking 2,560x1,600 pixels.

Amazon's tablets have proved popular, but have limited features. Although they're based on Android, you're tied down to games, apps and movies that can be accessed via Amazon's own services.

One major downside, for instance, is that you can only stream movies via Amazon's LoveFilm service, with no option to download them to your tablet to watch offline.

Any new 7-inch tablet will have a tough time trouncing the Nexus 7. Do you think Amazon can do it? Or is Google's tablet more appealing to you? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
