Advanced Sony Xperia TL landing on AT&T

In the Xperia TL, Sony finally looks to offer a lust-worthy and U.S. carrier supported smartphone.

Just when many may have lost hope in a slick Sony Xperia handset hitting American shores with carrier blessing, Sony outs plans to sell the new Xperia TL on AT&T. The device will feature a big 4.6-inch (1,080x720-pixel) screen, a 13-megapixel camera, Android 4.0, all powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

While Sony doesn't say exactly what version of CPU will drive the Xperia TL, the manufacture does label it as a "latest-generation" chip. Hopefully the processor will be modern Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 silicon instead of the weak Snapdragon S3 chips, which are in the Xperia S, P, and U models. Sony didn't lock down a specific ship date for the phone, either, but the handset will run on AT&T's fast 4G LTE data network.

Other hardware on the Xperia TL includes NFC technology to support wireless syncing of data. At launch the device will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but Sony has pledged the phone will receive an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the future.
