eMachines T3642
Reviewed on February 11, 2008
eMachines nailed the $300-$400 desktop with the T3642. It has a faster CPU, a larger hard drive, and is generally more capable than any other system in this price category. We would recommend it over anything else out there for the same price.

eMachines T5254
Reviewed on April 21, 2008
The eMachines T5254 costs less than similar systems from Dell and HP, and it outperforms them (in some cases), and uses less power while doing so. You can't configure it before making a purchase, but eMachines has chosen this system's specs wisely, and with a level of environmental consciousness that make it a very enticing deal.

HP Pavilion a6400z
Reviewed on April 10, 2008
The price of the HP Pavilion a6400z is definitely tempting, but you'll be much better off if you spend a little bit more on the right upgrades. This $340 configuration compares well with other PCs in its price range, but for $80 more it becomes a much more compelling desktop.

Lenovo ThinkCentre A61e
Reviewed on October 8, 2007
Any business interested in cutting its power bills generated by its work-a-day desktop fleet might be interested in the ThinkCentre A61e, but home office workers or anyone interested in a smaller PC should stay far away from this system that has a major performance and features deficit compared to other small desktops.

EMachines T6420 - Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2 GHz
Reviewed on February 15, 2006
The eMachines T6420 delivers major bang for your buck, including a roomy 200GB hard drive and upgradability in a fixed-configuration retail box. Still, we wish it were able to outperform the model it replaces.

HP Pavilion Slimline s7600e (1.6 GHz, 80 GB HDD)
Reviewed on October 12, 2006
HP's new Slimline Pavilion s7600e strikes a near-perfect balance of size, features, value, and support. Apple's Mac Mini might be more attractive, but there's almost nothing it can do that this small-form-factor Windows PC can't do better, and for less. If you're looking for a general-purpose desktop or a small, affordable PC to send media files to your TV, this should be your pick.

HP Pavilion Media Center a1510n - Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 GHz
Reviewed on August 18, 2006
The HP Pavilion a1510n is a perfectly serviceable PC at a reasonable price, but you can get more for your money from other vendors if you're willing to forgo the brand name.

Lenovo 3000 J105 8258 (Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, XP Pro)
Reviewed on March 31, 2006
The Lenovo 3000 J105 is best suited for basic office and home productivity tasks; but with limited upgrade options and a one-year warranty, better deals are out there.

eMachines T5212
Reviewed on October 3, 2006
eMachines T5212 is not our runaway budget winner, but it makes a strong attempt. It has better support features than its main competition and a less gaudy design. Its performance, however, is held back by specs that are either too slow, too old, or too small.

Velocity ProMagix E2035
Reviewed on May 4, 2007
Velocity Micro's PCs are always easy on the eyes, and that trend continues with this midrange gaming model. We have some reservations about its performance for the cost, but if you're inclined toward upgrading you might be willing to forgive that it's a little slow today.

The high-end HP Pavilion d4100e won't dazzle you with fancy case lights or a slick paint job, but it's more than capable of handling virtually any home multimedia project or 3D game.

Polywell Poly 590SLI2 - Athlon 64 FX 62 2.8 GHz - 24" TFT
Reviewed on June 5, 2006
With AMD's latest chipset and top-of-the-line CPU hidden inside a plain-Jane case, the Polywell Poly 950SLI2 doesn't look the part of the owner of the fastest benchmark scores we've ever seen. Be warned, however, it may not hold the title for long.
