Dell Inspiron 530-115B
Reviewed on October 22, 2008
This Best Buy-version of the Dell Inspiron may look unremarkable, but thanks to its fast Intel CPU it's also the best performing desktop PC in its sub-$600 price class. Other budget PCs might have fancier bells and whistles, but we like this desktop for its cheap speed.

Acer Aspire X1200-U1520A
Reviewed on September 2, 2008
The Acer Aspire X1200-U1520A is a speedy, compact, low-end desktop that's powerful enough to serve as a light-duty home theater PC. Expansion is limited by an especially cramped interior (even for a small PC), but the total package is worthwhile for PC shoppers on a budget.

Gateway DX 4720-03 - Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5 GHz
Reviewed on October 31, 2008
The Gateway DX4720-03 performs admirably and actually holds its own against triple-core computers thanks to its impressive list of features. It also has plenty of room for internal expansion, so we recommend this budget system if you need the speed but don't crave a ton of CPU power.

Gateway GT5692
Reviewed on August 6, 2008
The Gateway GT5692 is a reliable PC that will easily get you around all the standard tasks of a budget desktop. This triple-core system also includes 64-bit Windows and enough RAM to make it a very strong photo-editing desktop for its price.

Acer Aspire M5100
Reviewed on March 25, 2008
For performance-minded shoppers on a budget, the $700 quad-core Acer Aspire M5100 is fast enough to make you think about spending more than you might otherwise. If all you need is a capable PC with a decent hard drive, you can get away with a less expensive dual-core system.

HP Compaq Presario SR5610f
Reviewed on October 24, 2008
The HP Compaq Presario SR5610f stirs together a mix of mediocre parts in a cookie-cutter chassis, brewing up an altogether yawn-worthy computer. The price tag falls in line with other budget systems that feature similar components, but we recommend spending $50 more on the Acer x3200, a well designed compact PC that can carry more weight across a wider variety of applications.

Gateway GT5674
Reviewed on June 13, 2008
The Gateway GT5674 is a low-cost quad-core desktop that delivers excellent bang for the buck. The problem is, most mainstream users don't need four processing cores and can get away with a dual-core PC for even less.

eMachines ET1161-03
Reviewed on October 22, 2008
The eMachines ET1161-03 delivers fewer features than its competition at the same price. Stretch your dollar further and you'll find a desktop with significantly better components for only $50 more.

Reviewed on March 28, 2007
Acer's desktop replacement, the Aspire 9300-5005, breaks the $1,000 mark and includes some unexpected extras, but don't expect the performance to match more expensive systems.
