Though its lacks CompactFlash support, the SanDisk V-Mate is ultimately a slicker and more feature-rich mini digital VCR than the similarly priced Neuros Recorder 2 Plus.

The Yamaha RX-V663 sounds great, but it's tough to recommend with its paltry HDMI connectivity, poor upconversion quality, and other design quirks.

The inexpensive Samsung DVD-V9650 DVD/VCR combo unit has an HDMI output, a nice design, and DivX compatibility, but its soft video quality falls short of other HDMI players we've tested.

The GoVideo VR3930 is perfect for archiving your noncopyrighted VHS and DV home movies to DVD, but it's no better for recording TV than your current VCR.
