The powerful 2010 Mazdaspeed3 handles extremely well, but the lack of cabin tech features suggests you might want to get a stripped version and kit it out with aftermarket goodies.

The 2009 Mazda Mazda5 Grand Touring is an interesting choice for a budding family, primarily because there's nothing that directly compares to it on the market. Mazda will need to improve the interior quality if the Mazda5 is to really feel like a Grand Tourer.

Although we really liked the 2007 Mazda CX-7 during our test period, it wasn't outstanding in any particular way. It came equipped with a good stereo system and good navigation, and proved practical for getting around, and even fun to drive at times.

Fully equipped, the 2007 Mazda CX-9 gets close to $40,000, but it is a comfortable car with almost sporty handling. Most of its faults can be mitigated through its options, such as replacing the poor stereo interface with an LCD when you get navigation.

Although the 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed Mazda3 looks good and seems like a lot of fun at first, a few problems start to reveal themselves. While we never tire of good handling, a good stereo would also be nice.

The 2007 Mazda MX-5 PRHT drives well and looks great. It doesn't come with much cabin gadgetry, and what is there disappoints, but its customer base is more likely to value RPMs over MP3s.

With its distinctive high-revving rotary engine and comic book exterior styling, the Mazda RX-8 differentiates from the competition. Its cabin tech is badly outdated, but that doesn't stop it from being a blast to drive.

The 2008 Mazda Tribute HEV Touring has none of the cabin tech we like to see--you will have to get the Grand Touring version for those options. But it is a very practical car, with good interior space and low mileage.
