Firefox 2 Alpha 3
Reviewed on May 31, 2006
While changes within Firefox 2 Alpha 3 are bolder and better than those in Alpha 2, this version is still best suited only for developers and the technically adventurous.

Norton Confidential beta
Reviewed on August 9, 2006
While Norton Confidential beta from Symantec aims to protect your online transactions, and its antisphishing toolbar compares favorably to Netcraft's own offering, we found the Norton package to be overly large, including many other Symantec applets that seem unnecessary.

SiteAdvisor
Reviewed on February 16, 2007
SiteAdvisor is one of the first secure browsing tools to go mainstream, however, since its acquisition by McAfee, the product delivers uneven test results and therefore can't be recommended over the free Netcraft toolbar.

Internet Explorer 7
Reviewed on October 18, 2006
IE 7 was Microsoft's one chance to leapfrog ahead of the competition, but the company has only barely caught sight of the current front-runners. For more features and greater security, switch to Mozilla Firefox.

Internet Explorer 7 RC1
Reviewed on August 24, 2006
No new changes in this latest build of IE 7 from Microsoft, except for more stability and application compatibility, but this browser still is not ready for prime time.

SiteAdvisor Plus
Reviewed on February 16, 2007
This premium edition of the free SiteAdvisor blocks also links from IM and e-mail, but we question whether that's enough to justify the additional cost.

Finjan SecureBrowsing
Reviewed on April 24, 2007
Newcomer Finjan SecureBrowsing does a great job of identifying sites with suspected malware content, but it misses phishing sites and those linking to sites that contain malicious exploits.

Linkscanner Pro
Reviewed on February 16, 2007
Linkscanner Pro does a superb job of ferreting out sites defaced with dangerous hacker code, but for complete antiphishing protection, you'll still need a second program, such as the free Netcraft toolbar.
