Windows Vista SP1
Reviewed on February 7, 2008
While it's always good to install the latest code for any operating system, installing the Windows Vista SP1 update will require some casual users to spend a few hours without any visible or tangible improvements to their systems.

Reviewed on September 20, 2005
We like the keyboard and the mouse on the Logitech Cordless Desktop S 510, but the media remote's functionality could be improved.

Sony VAIO XL1 Digital Living System
Reviewed on November 28, 2005
The Sony VAIO XL1 DLS breaks some new ground for the living-room PC, but the wonky 200-disc changer hurts its overall appeal.

eMachines T5212
Reviewed on October 3, 2006
eMachines T5212 is not our runaway budget winner, but it makes a strong attempt. It has better support features than its main competition and a less gaudy design. Its performance, however, is held back by specs that are either too slow, too old, or too small.

Alienware Area-51 5500 - Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86 GHz - 17" TFT
Reviewed on October 6, 2006
We raved about Alienware's new case when we first saw it earlier this year, and we still like it here on the Area-51 5500, even if its innovative lighting system is only half-baked. What we like even more is the power this gaming PC serves up for the price.

MSI's failure to create a useful interface for its Media Center mars the otherwise well-designed, well-outfitted Zeus Thunder DV.

Polywell MiniBox 900VX-2800
Reviewed on September 27, 2004
Polywell's attempt at creating a media-center PC falls flat, with a weak software bundle, poor 3D performance, and a puny LCD monitor.

HP Compaq Presario SR1620NX (Sempron 2GHz, 512MB RAM, 160GB HDD)
Reviewed on December 21, 2005
The HP Compaq Presario SR1620NX makes a good impression for a $500 PC, thanks to welcome extras such as an x16 PCIe slot and a nine-in-one media-card reader.
