The Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM proved itself to be an excellent overall performer, particularly during movie playback, and can be had for a fair price. Only a flimsy stand, an overcalibrated color-temperature setting, and a poor lower viewing angle prevent a higher recommendation for this 25.5-inch LCD.

Dell's UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC widescreen monitor gives you tons of input flexibility, strong moving image quality, and a handful of other features that will endear you to it as a digital entertainment display. It's not as strong as we'd like with static images, however, making this display not as well suited to demanding image and graphics professionals.

The 22-inch ViewSonic VX2255wmb features a wide-screen display framed by a consumer-friendly, piano-black bezel, but it lacks the extra video ports consumers can rightfully expect to find on an LCD these days. Its image quality is excellent, however, and it boasts a built-in Webcam and microphone.
