Reviewed on January 11, 2011 The Origin Genesis is the first system we've seen with Intel's new Sandy Bridge Core i7 2600K chip. Fast, and extremely overclockable, the new chip has provided Origin with a platform for a remarkably value-friendly gaming rig. Shop around for pricing as Sandy Bridge spreads among other vendors, but right now this is the $2,499 gaming PC to beat. Reviewed on April 14, 2010 We like the looks of Asus' Eee Box EB1501, but it's pricier than Blu-ray players that stream content from the Web, and not as powerful as slightly more expensive slim tower PCs that offer significantly more speed and power. Asus made a decent attempt at the Nettop-as-set-top-box replacement with this system, but it's crowded out by too many alternatives. Reviewed on June 7, 2007 The design remains the same, but under the hood Apple's MacBook Pro laptops received a jolt by way of faster processors, a new chipset, and--depending on the screen size--either new screen technology or the option for a higher resolution. Those pining for a 12-inch MacBook Pro will need to continuing waiting, but there's nothing to complain about for the updated 15- and 17-inch models, which offer improved specs at the same starting prices. Reviewed on July 17, 2007 The quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6850 keeps the desktop CPU performance belt tied firmly around Intel's waist at a price that helps offset the lack of sizable performance gains. New products at the end of the year may outclass this new chip when they arrive, but for now, the QX6850 reigns supreme.
