The Onkyo HT-RC160 has nearly all the same functionality as the similar TX-SR607, for about $100 less, making it one of the best AV receiver values of the year.

The Yamaha YHT-791BL home theater system sounds nearly as good as the Onkyo HT-S9100THX (while costing less), and comes with an iPod dock, making it an excellent all-in-one system for the audiophile on a budget.

The Yamaha RX-V661 is a solid, budget AV receiver with HD switching, but it's a tough sell when competing models with next-generation HDMI 1.3 features are available for just a few dollars more.

The Yamaha RX-V1700 is a mostly solid A/V receiver with an attractive feature package and excellent sound, but you might be able to find a better overall value.

The Yamaha HTR-6160 sounds great, but it's tough to recommend with its paltry HDMI connectivity, poor upconversion quality, and other design quirks.
