Reviewed on June 1, 2006 AMD's new high-end dual-core CPU offers plenty of bang for the buck, outpacing Intel's Pentium 965 Extreme Edition, which costs $200 more. Sounds like a good deal, but wait to see what Intel's next-gen Core 2 Duo chips have to offer when they debut later this year. Reviewed on April 7, 2010 The ThinkPad x100e is essentially the ThinkPad Netbook users have been dreaming of, with one of the best keyboards we've ever tested. Unfortunately, its performance, though better than that of Atom Netbooks, comes at the cost of longer battery life. Reviewed on January 28, 2010 Toshiba's lightweight and affordable thin-and-light T135 series shaves another hundred off its price by switching to an AMD Neo processor in the T135D-S1324, while offering only slightly diminished performance. Reviewed on August 17, 2010 The Toshiba Satellite T235D-S1345 is a solid, slim, and affordable 13-inch tweener laptop for ultraportable computing; however, in a landscape filled with thinner and faster alternatives, it no longer stands alone. Reviewed on November 2, 2008 Thanks to an expensive new motherboard requirement, Intel's new Core i7 desktop processors will remain enthusiast and professional-level parts until more affordable complementary hardware comes out later next year. Speed never comes cheap, however, and if you're willing to spend for it now, you'll find yourself in possession of the fastest CPU on the market. Reviewed on March 26, 2008 AMD's new Phenom X4 9850 is overpriced and outclassed compared with its Intel-based quad-core competition. If PC vendors can use this chip to make cheap systems (as they did with older Phenoms), we might have nicer things to say, but as a DIY part at this price, we can't recommend AMD's latest quad-core CPU. Reviewed on July 13, 2006 Intel's Core 2 Duo E6700 offers the best price-to-performance ratio we've seen in a desktop chip. For half the cost of AMD's top-of-the-line chip, you get identical if not superior performance and better power efficiency. AMD surprised us last year with its completely dominant dual-core chips, but Intel regains the crown with Core 2 Duo. Reviewed on September 9, 2010 The dual-core version of the ThinkPad x100e is a much better bet than the original single-core version. Battery life is still an issue, but it's a nice-to-the-touch 11.6-inch business Netbook. Reviewed on July 20, 2010 As much as we like the new chassis, a sparse feature set limits the Asus Essentio CM5675-07's shelf appeal. It's certainly not a bad computer, and its Intel Core i5 650 CPU is fast enough for most tasks, but we wish Asus had done more to help this lower midrange midtower stand out.
