eMachines T5048
Reviewed on September 26, 2006
Though it's a capable PC, particularly for the price, the budget eMachines T5048 starts to lose its appeal when you look at desktops that cost just $100 or so more. It's is a good pick if you need to keep to a strict budget, but otherwise we recommend spending a little more.

eMachines T3626
Reviewed on November 6, 2007
They don't call them budget PCs for nothing. If price is your first concern, the eMachines T3626 seems to offer the best computing deal for the money, but only thanks to its $50 rebate. If you can stand to spend $400 or more, you can get substantially more computer for your dollar.

ZT Group ZT A5305
Reviewed on October 19, 2004
The ZT A5305 works for small jobs, but a tightly configured eMachines PC offers more for the same price. And if you have a bigger job to do, opt for ZT's upscale A5306 instead.

Sys TaskMaster S3100
Reviewed on December 16, 2004
AMD's Sempron processor makes the Sys TaskMaster S3100 cheaper, but the system's many frills bring the price back up. We recommend you pair the mid-to-high-end parts to a more powerful CPU.

HP Presario SR1910NX (Sempron 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 120 GB HDD)
Reviewed on August 18, 2006
The HP Compaq Presario SR1910NX is as strong a system as any other $400 computer, but that's not saying a lot. Spend a bit more--while still staying firmly rooted in the budget class--and you can push its replacement date back a couple years.

Lenovo 3000 J105 8258 (Sempron 3000+ 1.8GHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, XP Home)
Reviewed on February 23, 2006
Lenovo's 3000-series desktops are the first PCs the company can truly call its own. These small-business PCs offer an affordable, flexible set of configurations with an attractive design and added business features to boot. The value proposition, however, appears to be lacking.
