Reviewed on October 13, 2010 The latest in Gateway's line of versatile slim towers, the SX2850-33 stays current with a fast Intel Core i3 CPU, and more importantly adds Wi-Fi to improve its suitability as a living-room desktop. It might cost more than a Nettop or a dedicated video-streaming device, but for its overall speed and flexibility, we'd pick this system as a budget PC or an online living-room content center. Reviewed on November 11, 2010 The Lenovo IdeaCentre A700 40244CU comes in an attractive, thoughtfully designed package, but overall it lacks substance given its high price tag. Only buy if you put a premium on looks and external device compatibility. Reviewed on July 20, 2010 As much as we like the new chassis, a sparse feature set limits the Asus Essentio CM5675-07's shelf appeal. It's certainly not a bad computer, and its Intel Core i5 650 CPU is fast enough for most tasks, but we wish Asus had done more to help this lower midrange midtower stand out. Reviewed on November 12, 2008 Velocity Micro's Edge Z55 provides a powerful example of the leap ahead in performance afforded by Intel's new Core i7 CPUs. Velocity Micro's own overclocking efforts don't hurt either. Any PC gamer would love to make this upper midrange desktop their own. Reviewed on August 5, 2010 The Gateway SX2801-01e is just one of several new budget slim tower systems available this season. We're impressed by its compact design and the HDMI port makes it easy to use in the living room. For a $520 system, the SX2801-01e's performance and upgradability put it in the same top tier as the Editors' Choice-winning models that came before it, and we recommend it to anyone shopping for a powerful, flexible, cost-effective computer. Reviewed on April 20, 2010 The eMachines ET1831-07 isn't much of a video playback device, but in all other respects, this is a solid budget PC. Perhaps the best deal going for its features, it also outperforms other desktops in and above its price range on general computing tasks. We recommend this system to anyone shopping for a low-cost computer. Reviewed on September 15, 2010 You'll probably decide pretty quickly whether you like the Acer Aspire Predator's looks. Those in favor will also find a higher-end gaming PC with reasonably fast performance and plenty of room to expand and upgrade. Not everyone will appreciate the Predator's visual charms, but we recommend this PC to those who do. TAGS: Acer Inc., Acer Aspire, Intel Core Microarchitecture, Gigabit Ethernet, optical drive, design, Windows 7, 64-bit, chipset, Intel, Ethernet, CPU, PC, games, operating system, Microsoft Windows CNET review: 7.1 Very good User rating: 10.0 Perfect Pricing not available -
Reviewed on December 8, 2010 Even if we hadn't seen faster PCs for less this holiday season, we'd still take issue with the value proposition of the Acer Aspire Predator G5900-U3092. With few extra features or connectivity options to justify its $1,349 price tag, this PC trades primarily on its unique design--a poor substitute for useful functionality. TAGS: Velocity Micro, Blu-ray drive, Acer Inc., Acer Aspire, optical drive, Blu-ray, Windows 7, 64-bit, Intel, motherboard, CPU, hard drive, PC, Microsoft Windows CNET review: 5.8 Average User rating: 7.0 Very good Pricing not available -
Reviewed on July 19, 2010 We have few reservations about this Gateway DX4840-03e. Even if it's not a particularly remarkable system, it's hard to argue that it falls short as a general purpose budget midtower. If that's all you're looking for, we can recommend this PC with little hesitation. TAGS: Gateway Inc., ASUS, graphics chip, USB port, networking, multimedia, 64-bit, HP CNET review: 7.0 Very good User rating: 9.0 Spectacular Pricing not available
