Apple TV revamp this year to add Time Warner Cable?
The TWC TV app already brings live channels and on-demand videos to devices like the Kindle Fire and Roku, but Apple is reportedly in talks with Time Warner Cable and others for a new version of its set-top box.
This year, Apple finally may be refreshing Apple TV, and Time Warner Cable may make it onto the box at long last.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is planning for a new Apple TV box as early as April and is in talks with Time Warner Cable and other possible partners.
Time Warner Cable's app, TWC TV, already brings live channels and on-demand videos to devices like the Kindle Fire tablet from Amazon and the Roku, which is Apple's main competitor in the over-the-top box market, as well as to consoles like the Xbox 360 and to Samsung smart TVs, but Apple TV has yet to secure a pay-TV partner like a cable company.
For much of last year Apple TV was rumored to be next for TWC TV.
The idea that Apple TV would be getting a long-overdue refresh this year has also been churning in the rumor mill for some time.
A Time Warner Cable spokeswoman didn't have a comment. An Apple spokesman declined to comment.
Apple is aiming for the new iteration of Apple TV to be ready for holiday shopping, according to the Bloomberg report, which also notes the plans could change. One of Bloomberg's two unnamed sources said the upgraded Apple TV will have a faster processor, and refreshed and other online content.
