BlackBerry Curve Touch 9380 and Bold 9790 coming soon

BlackBerry maker RIM is understandably eager to move on after its embarrassing recent worldwide service outage, and has teased us with two new BlackBerry 7-powered handsets.

The BlackBerry Curve Touch 9380 and the BlackBerry Bold 9790, codenamed Bellagio, were unveiled on the BlackBerry Developers Blog.

You may want to keep the whoops, high fives and congratulatory back slaps on ice a second, though, because the information presented was scant to say the least.

So far, only the names, operating system, screen sizes and display resolutions of each handset -- the minimum information required for developers to create compatible apps -- have been divulged.

The BlackBerry Curve Touch 9380 will pipe visuals via a 3.2-inch touchscreen pushing 360x480 pixels in a pixel density of 198 pixels per inch (ppi). BlackBerry says it'll be an all-touch device, but with a screen that small it'll be a tiddler.

The BlackBerry Bold 9790, or Bellagio, meanwhile, will boast a smaller 2.4-inch touchscreen with the same resolution as the 9380, but with a higher 245ppi pixel density. It will make use of an integrated Qwerty keyboard.

Those specs are a tad unspectacular. The Curve Touch 9380's screen trails some way behind all-touch rivals such as the iPhone 4S, which packs a 3.5-inch, 640x960-pixel resolution and 326ppi pixel density. The resolution of the Bold 9790, meanwhile, appears identical to the existing Bold 9700. From that we'll infer they'll at least be cheap.
