Motorola Ventures, the investment arm of Motorola, has invested in Intellon, a maker of chips that allow devices to transmit and receive data via electric power lines, Intellon said Tuesday. The company also said it will provide power line networking chips to Motorola. The electronics giant has indicated interest in providing its customers broadband access over power lines, and it will tap into Intellon's HomePlug chip portfolio.

Intellon declined to disclose the size of Motorola's investment, which is part of its second round of funding it will later announce, an Intellon representative said. In a previous funding round, the company raised $23.5 million.
