Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Droids get KitKat next
Big Red has begun the process of updating a handful of phones lineup with the latest version of Android.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will receive an Android bump from Verizon.
It's a busy time over in Verizon's neck of the woods as the wireless provider deploys Android 4.4 KitKat updates to a variety of smartphones. According to details posted on the carrier's support pages and various blogs, at least four models are ready to receive.
Getting (almost) with the times this week are the Droid Razr M , Droid Razr HD , and Droid Razr Maxx HD . All three, which were released back in late 2012, are picking up Android 4.4.2. It's not the latest version of Android, but it sure beats getting left behind altogether.
In addition to the standard fare of features, details in the release notes indicate the trio pick up an updated version of the Droid Zap app as well as patches for security, WiFi, and roaming. For what it's worth, the
HD and Droid Maxx HD also benefit from an enhanced HDMI; however, it's not exactly clear what that means.Also getting a KitKat update this week is the much newer Samsung Galaxy Note 3 . According to Droid Life, the plus-size smartphone can be updated using Samsung Kies or the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant.
Reading through the blog's comments, it appears some folks have also been able to grab the update over the air. Unfortunately, it isn't immediately obvious what is included in the release. We might look for Verizon to update its software page for the Galaxy Note 3 in the coming days.
