The Sony Xperia Z Ultra will cost £600 when it lands this autumn and tries to give the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 a run for its money.

Those cheeky scamps at Unlocked Mobiles have revealed the UK price and release date for the oversized waterproof phone-slash-tablet. That's £600 SIM-free, with contracts still to be revealed.

Sony's rival to the popular Note phablet is expected to hit shelves on 12 September -- and Unlocked Mobiles says that date comes straight from Sony.

The Xperia Z Ultra -- not to be confused with the Xperia Tablet Z -- is a huuuuuge phone with a 6.4-inch 1080p screen. Inside is a quad-core processor clocked at a headspinning 2.2GHz.
