Apple's ever-so-slightly faster new MacBook Air is prompting UK retailers to slash the price of last year's model, offering bargain-hunters the chance to nab a discounted laptop.

Revealed just a few days ago, the new 2014 MacBook Air is almost identical to the 2013 version, but bumps the clock speed of its Intel Core i5 processor from 1.3GHz to 1.4GHz. That's a very minor change, but Apple also saw fit to knock £100 off the price, with the cheapest new MacBook Air now starting at £749.

As such, last year's Air has been given an even beefier price cut, with UK shops knocking £150 off the old price. John Lewis is selling the 2013 11-inch MacBook Air for £699, which gets you the smaller version of Apple's svelte computer, bundled with 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.

Amazon is selling the same model for a whole 59p less (£698.41 to be precise). Currys has it for £699, and the starting 13-inch model for £799, £50 less than the 2014 starter MacBook Air costs.

Refurb bargain

Even more bargain-tastic are the refurbished MacBook Airs on Apple's website. There you can snap up the 2013 11-inch model for a tempting £599. The 13-inch 2013 model starts at £679.

Are you tempted to buy last year's MacBook Air, or are you eyeing up this year's model? Are the new prices a bargain, or still too pricey for your tastes? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
